Gold Saucer joins the Opus IX Spoiler season with a very cool card provided by Square Enix: Bangaa 9-071C!
As a Cost 2 Earth Backup, job Standard Unit, Bangaa has an original and quite interesting effect: when entering the field, it allows to pay 1 Earth CP to choose an Earth Character from the Break Zone and add it to one own’s hand.
In the worst case scenario (which is having to play it first turn without activating its effect) this Backup is a starter, but already from second turn it becomes a cost 1 Backup which allows to retrieve a useful card: a Cecil to use its Special for example, a Miner/Minfilia/Star Sybil already broken for its effect, and generally speaking an important, but expensive, Earth card which was discarded earlier in the game and that became relevant later. It’s basically a more cost-efficient Miner, except for the lack of first-turn efficient use.
And more! A pretty cool feature of this card is its effect triggering when the card enters the field and not when it’s played from the hand. This will allow interesting combinations:
The first one that comes to mind is the one with Warrior of the Light 6-066H: played at cost 6, it allows to put Bangaa in play from the Break Zone and pay 1 to retrieve another Earth character of choice. This way we’ll have paid Warrior of the Light only 3CP, while playing a backup and retrieving something useful from the Break Zone, and as if this wasn’t enough we’d be giving +2000 power to all our Standard Units until the end of turn!
So basically this is a more “accurate” version of the already spoiled Opus IX White Mage, which allows through a similar effect to draw 1 card. Having both in the deck, maybe in concert with the aforementioned Warrior of Light, could make a Water-Earth Soldier deck faster and thus viable, with 6 equivalents of a cost-1 Backup helping the omnipresent Viking+Leila combo in milling yourself ou… erm, in making the deck run smoothly.
